Homework Review - Mid Week 1

I recorded some detailed feedback on your homework so far. Thanks for all the hard work. Comments and notes below the videos as well. See you in class on Thursday!

Othell

Notes:

  • awesome volume of work!!! I'll have to give you 2x homework every week :)
  • the main thing is to be mindful of the jaw. The angles of the point of the jaw were off. This is your biggest tendency so look for that the rest of this week
  • sizes of the jaw were slightly off in side view.
  • For your skull, learn to simplify details in some areas (like teeth in 3/4). Also be mindful of jaw shape and angles in the skull (this is like what's happening in faces)
  • overall your thought process is correct, now it's just more fine tuning and more feedback
  • For bonus homework, attempt to draw in public (cafe, bookstore etc). Do a quick observation of their head shape (in 2D) and then drop the cross-hairs. Do as many as you can this week.
  • Also, do trace-overs and pay attention to the jaw shape and jaw line

Notes:

  • overall the angles were off. take the time to make sure the angle of the vertical and horizontal centers (cross hairs) are correct.
  • think more graphic/2D when observing the outershape (see video and images)
  • As a bonus assignment, I'd like to see you copy a Bargue plate. This will help to train your eye to think 2D and graphic

Pete

Notes:
  • shapes look good overall
  • angles, tilt and yaw looks great overall
  • main thing is to watch the jaw shape. feels small at times, the angle and alignment of the point of the jaw is off at times
  • jaw of skull feels a little small esp. at chin
